Rafael Nadal practised with Fernando Verdasco in Beijing

Tennis: World number two Rafael Nadal is practicing with his compatriot and former world number 7 Fernando Verdasco to get ready for the China Open in Beijing which will start from Monday.
Nadal shared a picture on his facebook page in which he could be seen sitting with Verdasco after there practice session. They looked in a very good mood, with Verdasco placing his arm around Nadal’s neck.
The 13-time Grand Slam winner also wrote this caption under the picture, “With Fernando Verdasco! After practice with him at Beijing.”
Nadal and Verdasco are not just countrymen but very good friends too. They have also won Davis Cup for their country together. However, Nadal obviously have been more successful player on the Tour. They have played 14 matches against each other and Verdasco has won just the last one. Their Australian Open semi-final 2009 was one of the best of tournament’s history.
They are in different halves of the draw at the China Open which means they can only meet in the final and for that Verdasco will have to upset reigning world number one Novak Djokovic in the second round. If Nadal reaches the final of this ATP World Tour 500 hard court event he will snatch number one ranking from the Serbian.

Nadal always says that China is a special place for him as he won Olympics Gold Medal here in 2008. The Spaniard also won China Open in 2005. He can make this trip special too as he can regain number one ranking by reaching the final here.

Rafael Nadal close to remarkable return to No 1

Rafael Nadal embarks on the China Open in Beijing on Tuesday against Colombian opponent Santiago Giraldo knowing that if he reaches the final he will return to the top of the world rankings next Monday – even if the current No 1 Novak Djokovic wins the title.
Since returning in February from a seven-month injury lay-off, Nadal has lost only three matches and won 10  titles. With no ranking points to defend between now and the ATP World Tour finals in London next month, the  27-year-old Spaniard looks a strong  favourite to climb above the Serb.
“It will be very tough,” Nadal said. “I hope to have my chance here or in the next few weeks.”

Rafa Nadal starts the final push to what he hopes will be a return to the top of the world rankings when he gets under way at the China Open on Tuesday. The Spaniard has played only one singles and a doubles match since winning the US Open earlier this month, during a crushing Davis Cup victory over Ukraine, and is re-energised for the final stretch of a season that started under a cloud but has turned into one of his best. Since returning from a seven-month injury lay-off in February the 27-year-old has been virtually unstoppable, winning 10 titles and compiling a 61-3 record.

Sampras : "Nadal va me dépasser"
